Are you a traveler who spends most of his/her time on the beach? Do you feel like your beach towel brings half of the ocean with you? Then I got just the right thing for you!
As a traveler from a country composed of 7,000+ islands, my travel destinations are no doubt mostly beaches. I cannot get enough of island hopping, swimming and lounging in the sand and soaking up the sun. My dry bag, which I take everywhere, always has one small microfiber towel. You’ll never know when you’re gonna need some drying up. It’s cheap, it’s light, but I always have to be careful with it. I can’t get it very wet or let sand touch it. However, no matter how careful I am, I always seem to take half of the beach or soil with me because it clings to my towel. So I was very happy when Tesalate gave me a chance to get my hands on this innovative beach towel. It claims to be sand-free, light and absorbent. I figured, as a traveler, a sand-free towel is something I cannot overlook to try.
What is Tesalate?
Tesalate is a Sydney-based brand whose goal is to give us better days at the beach with their innovative product. They are very popular on Instagram and Facebook and have good reviews from beach lovers all over the world.
The brand claims to bring beauty and functionality together to make a high-quality, unique product. Their exclusive Absorblite fabric technology gives their towel a cutting-edge which makes it quite the talk not just in the beach-bum world but also for travelers and yogis. See the story behind their brand here.
When I was choosing a design to write about, I was having a hard time because a lot of their designs are gorgeous! The technology is one of a kind, but the style is something else. The design and features of this product are the perfect combination to convince you to bring it along your travels.
Shipping, unboxing and first impressions
Shipping only took a week. I expected it to last more than 15 days since it was shipped from Australia. Fortunately, the company uses DHL and its courier and it was smooth and hassle free. Tesalate was also keeping in-touch with me the whole time and I believe that says a lot about a company. Customer service is a big factor!
I was both nervous and excited to open my package. To be honest, my first few choices of design were all sold out. I still like this one though, I just didn’t know if it would look good in person as it is on their website. The towel was inside a reusable black pouch which looked simple and classy. I wasn’t sure if the towel was big enough since it could fit in such a compact bag.
Upon pulling out the product from the bag, the towel was wrapped in a nice paper which made me more nervous. I JUST WANTED TO SEE THE DESIGN! So much thrill while unboxing this product. But it was sooo worth it!
I love that it looks so versatile and functional to be used as a beach, gym and yoga towel. I honestly used it for my active-recovery stretching day and I love it!
#1 Design – Saltwater Tesalate Sand-Free Beach Towel
The towel was beautifully wrapped and folded and it unveiled a really gorgeous, summer vibe design. I ordered the “Saltwater” variant and it was seriously giving me a strong beach-vibe. It was more beautiful in person. There weren’t many user-photos of Saltwater so I wasn’t sure how gorgeous it was but I am definitely glad that I chose this. It goes perfectly well with my island-girl vibe and my bubbly personality.
Choosing from over 30+ of their towel designs is both painful and fun to do. I think I went over to their website multiple times just to choose one. I had to ask for my friends’ opinions as well, because if the brand’s claims were true, I would be using this towel for years. I didn’t expect it to really be a full-sized towel because it felt so light and compact. But when I unfolded it, it was bigger than most microfiber beach towels and it was more than enough to cover me.
They have designs from minimalist tones to colorful and vibrant patterns. Personally, I love the minimalist and boho-style designs. It’s all up to you. No matter what you choose, you still get the same functionality.
#2 Sand-free Tesalate beach towel
To be honest, I wasn’t able to test it on actual beach sand since we’re still on lockdown here in the Philippines. So I tried to use it on other natural surfaces like soil and garden. Amazingly enough, the garden soil didn’t cling to the towel. There were a few grains that did but it was easily removed with a few light shaking. This technique isn’t effective with ordinary beach towels and you’re left to dry off with a towel with a few rough grains.
Next, I dragged it on the soil and sat on it. As expected, you will still see some soil grains here and there but like I said, with a few light shakes it would easily come off. This is a beach-bum’s dream towel! It also means that it’s more durable since it doesn’t need much maintenance. It might be a bit expensive than other towel brands, but if it will last long then you get you money’s worth!
The texture of the towel is a bit rough and weird when you first open it. It’s not as fluffy and thick as other towels, but I guess that’s what makes it the innovative product it is. However, upon a few washes, the towel gets softer but the sand-free technology is still there.
#3. Ultra absorbent Tesalate towels
With ordinary microfiber towels, you are more likely to be damp than dry. I tested it after showering and it dried me faster than my usual beach towel. It also absorbed the water in my wet hair a lot faster. This is a really good feature for a traveler since you can’t be soaking wet when you go from one place to another when exploring.
However, the towel also feels a bit heavier which is expected since it absorbed more water. It claims to absorb about one liter of water so you can go soak in the waters, go back to land, dive right back again and you’ll still find it easy to dry yourself after every swim.
#4. Rapid Drying Beach Towels
It is indeed a quick-drying towel although it depends on how much water it has absorbed. After showering, it dried up pretty quickly compared to my ordinary towels. However, if you really had maximized its ultra-absorbent feature, it won’t dry as quickly.
That’s not really a deal-breaker and should be expected. The more water it absorbs, the more time it needs to dry off.
#5. Light and compact Tesalate beach towels
It comes with a small black pouch and you won’t even expect to have a full-sized towel in there! That’s how light and compact it is. As someone who just brings one backpack to all my travels, this is such a convenience. My microfiber towel, despite being smaller (not enough to cover me) still takes a bit of space in my Deuter backpack. It also takes up almost 80% of the space in my dry bag.
However, the Tesalate towel folds and rolls so well that it fits right in the corner of my bag. You can even fold it like one of your clothes and it won’t take up space compared to other towels. I love how light and full-sized it is that I will be taking this on all my future trips!
What I like most about the Tesalate Sand-Free Beach Towels:
- Size and weight – Despite it being full-sized, it’s not heavy or doesn’t take much space in your bag at all. That’s very important for me because I always travel light.
- Sand-free technology – Although I don’t sit on my towel at the beach, using a towel after swimming still gets sand all over my towel. Tesalate repels most of the sand and if other grains did cling, it’s easily brushed off.
- The design! I could not love my Tesalate towel design more. I love the ocean, the island life and the blues so this design really aligns with my personality. I could not have found beautiful and elegant towels like this in department stores.
- The functionality and versatility. You can use this as a gym and yoga towel as well
What I like least about the beach towels:
- It could get heavy. This one is something that we should expect and is just science. You could easily get away with it by wringing the towel after every use.
- It’s not THAT quick drying. It’s still fast drying yes, but don’t expect it to be instantly dry in 10 minutes after you hang it.
- The price is a little steep but I only found one other brand that offers the same technology. Honestly, for the design, durability and functionality and the Tesalate customer service, I think it’s worth it.
Do I think the price is worth it? Heck yes. Aside from its beautiful and unmatched designs, the functionality and the features it offers, I think it’s worth the money. If you’re a traveler or a beach bum, you would be using it a lot. Why not invest in something durable and pretty at the same time?
